Hello! My name is Aleksa Overby! I began my career in Early Childhood Education in 1994. Since that time, I have worked closely with children from ages 0-8 years old in a number of different settings including large preschools, small private centers, a language school, and residential summer camps. Before joining TLCA in 2019, I was the Academy Director for an early childhood education center in Bothell for 8 years as well as Program Coordinator in Seattle for the 5 years before that.
I hold a degree in both Early Childhood Education and Organizational Management and believe in being a life-long learner. I strongly believe in the quote, “The best things in life, aren’t things.” Love and shared experiences are what help children flourish, learn and grow, and I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved in that process. Along with a very high standard for quality care and education, I find it immensely important to have consistent, transparent and open communication with staff and families. I encourage you all to reach out to me at anytime to ask questions, share concerns, praise something a staff member did or give suggestions. Working as a community is what will continue to make the academy a truly exceptional place for children and families.
Hello! My name is Tiffany Malicoat. I began my career in Early Childhood Education in 2002. In the years since, I have had opportunities to both care for and teach children in five different states from around the country. I have taught children from a variety of backgrounds and abilities from infancy through kindergarten. With over fifteen years of leadership experience, I possess a broad range of knowledge and expertise in early childhood education. In 2017 when TLCA first opened, I decided to take the leap and join a brand new childcare center in hope of making it my long-term professional home.
I hold a degree in Child Development as well as a Paraprofessional certificate. I am excited about continuing to work with TLCA's amazing teachers and families, and am eager to continue my own professional growth. My main goal is to partner with our teachers and support them in creating high-quality, early childhood education in a safe, peaceful and joyful environment. We will accomplish this together through a combination of developmentally appropriate lesson plans and enrichment programs, such as soccer, STEAM, language (Mandarin), music and movement and character development.
It is my sincere hope that your family’s experience at TLCA will be rewarding as we strive to lay the foundation for a lifetime of passionate learning.
Founders & Owners: Sunny & Eric Breeden
Hello! As the founders and owners of Totem Lake Children’s Academy, we assume tremendous responsibility and accountability in providing excellent care and education for your children. You have entrusted us with your biggest treasure, and we strive to build on that trust and partnership.
TLCA was built with the vision of being a gathering place for first-time and seasoned parents to trade parenting tips, share their joys as well as their concerns and a place for children to begin life-long friendships. We wanted to establish a school that offers the personal touch and customer appreciation of a small, locally owned business, but one that would outshine any corporate-based chain in terms of state-of-the-art facility and academic curriculum.
Most of all, the school's inspiration stems from our love and appreciation for children and belief that quality education is the key to successful and sustainable societies.
More about our backgrounds. Sunny consulted for the United Nations in Rome, Italy and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, before joining the financial markets industry in Asia. She left her banking career after meeting her husband, falling in love with him along with the natural backdrop of the Pacific Northwest. Sunny has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Chicago and her MBA from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Eric is an Anesthesiologist, having completed both medical school and residency training at the University of Washington. Eric works behind the scenes in advising the executive decisions of the school.
Sunny and Eric have a young toddler, Bryce, who is constantly on the move. He gives them more joy than they ever imagined possible but also reminds them of the incredible demands that their customers face as parents.
